PV2 Limke, Kasaundra 23 July 2010 The importance of discipline and respect Discipline and respect are important in life as well as in the army. Respect is one of the army’s seven values. The seven army values are loyalty, respect, duty, honor, selfless service, integrity, and personal courage. While respect is one of the army values, discipline is needed for all of them. You must have discipline in yourself in order to have selfless service, to do your duty, to have personal courage, as well as loyalty, and honor. And it takes a discipline to respect. The definition of discipline is 1. training to act in accordance with rules; drill: military discipline. 2. activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training: A†¦show more content†¦For example if a certain soldier is constantly getting away with not showing respect towards his NCOs or command, or does not have the discipline to do what is he is told to do/needs to do, and the other soldiers in that area witness this often, the y will begin to believe that respect and discipline is not so important, since this one individual gets away with it all the time. This leads to the other soldiers not caring to show the proper respect and to start questioning why they are having to do things. And when it comes time to get a go to the field, and train or actually deploy and fight, and they are told something needs to be done, it’ll be blown off and then at that point people start to get hurt. We have to have the discipline to do what we are told, when we are told it, exactly how we are told it when we are fighting in order to save our lives. When we forget that, don’t bother to do it, or even question it, we become vulnerable, and in that instance we either get hurt, get others hurt, or worse killed. Turning of the Tides Essay How dare you accuse me of such a thing? Why, I cant even think of doing anything so horrid let alone act upon such thoughts!I knew she was lying. She had this trademark way of stuttering on the ends of her sentences when she lied as if she were reviewing in her mind what had just been said to make sure she was being consistent. I caught it though. I catch it every time. I eased into my questioning: Then where were you last night?You know damn well I was with Kathy the entire evening. She came to the house. We drove off together. You even waved to us from the living room window while we pulled out of the driveway! Or have you forgotten about that already? Simple memories such as these should not be so hard to recall. Do you know what its like for me to try and argue with someone who has to have events not 24 hours old repeated constantly?That was another thing she did whenever she lied. She attempted to shift the blame. But she wasnt satisfied with just shifting it; she had to twist it and rearrange it until the blame was situated on me for something that had absolutely nothing to do with the initial argument. It was as if she thought she could confuse me into believing the whole thing was my fault. As if I would suddenly feel guilty for her trivial, self proclaimed plight. However, oftentimes this plan of hers would actually work. That was probably why she was still using it now. The only reason I would ever concede to such a weak tactic, though, was to put an end to the relentless banter that would otherwise run endlessly into the night without resolve. But this time the severity of the situation would not be compromised. I moved onto my next question: Then refresh my memory once again, if you would. Why is it that when I called Kathys last night you werent there?But I was there. Kathy told you I had just stepped into the washroom for a minute.Then why werent you there when I called ten minutes later?No one was there! When I was finished in the washroom Kathy rushed me out the door to eat at some new restaurant shed been dying to take me too all month. Really? My trust in you is somewhat lacking at the moment and the only way to redeem my trust is to answer my questions.
